It is quite common for children to have ‘curly toes’ which is where some of the toes curl inwards. It is usually seen in the third and fourth toes. Usually the child’s toes will straighten as they grow and rarely do they cause significant problems.
The most common complications of curled toes would be changes to the toenails. The toenails may become thickened or tender as a result of rubbing inside shoes. Blisters or tinea may also develop between the toes as the toes are pressed tightly together. It will be important to check between your child’s toes to make sure that there is no moisture getting trapped between the toes which can lead to fungal infections such as tinea.
