Laser Podiatry for Psoarisis

psoriasisPsoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition, which is characterised by red lesions with silvery scales, commonly affecting the scalp, elbows, knees, palms and soles. Psoriasis can also affect the nails of the fingers and toes, causing ‘pitting’ or onycholysis (separation of the nail plate from the bed).

In some patients with psoriasis, treatment with the Cutera GenesisPlus laser can assist with improving nails that are affected by pitting. Due to the nature of psoriasis, laser treatment for nail pitting tends to be required on an ongoing basis. Initial treatments are recommended to be monthly, extending out to every 3 months after the first 3 sessions. Some people may also opt for short term laser treatment of nail pitting for a special occasion such as a wedding.

Results of laser treatment for psoriasis are variable, therefore we would only recommend ongoing laser treatment if an improvement was noted within the first 2 laser treatment sessions.
