Can podiatrists help with hip bursitis?

Here at the Brisbane based Entire Podiatry, our highly trained and experienced podiatrists have seen countless varieties of conditions and injuries come through the doors. We pride ourselves on being experts in treating our clients using the latest research and techniques to achieve the greatest results. In today’s blog post, we will answer a few questions about a condition we see quite often in our clinics Hip Bursitis.

What is Hip Bursitis?

Around the hip and upper thigh region of our body, we have a natural cushion’ so to speak which is known as a Bursa. This Bursa rests between the bone on the outside of your hip and the large tendon that runs alongside this bone. If the Bursa becomes damaged, whether it be through injury, posture, surgery or deterioration, the tendon will start to rub against the bone. This can cause inflammation, and quite often a sharp pain in the hip.

Why see a Podiatrist?

By addressing any abnormal foot function, a podiatrist can help to correctly align your pelvis, to absorb and distribute the forces and stresses that it is placed under. A podiatrist is also able to correct any minor posture issues which may be aggravating the condition, such as Leg Length Discrepancy, in an effort to ensure correct biomechanics of the body.

I thought Podiatrists only deal with feet?

Absolutely not! This common misconception fails to realise all of the related conditions and injuries that occur in the lower body, whether they are muscular or skeletal. Podiatrists often deal with the feet, the ankles, the knees, the hips and the lower back (If associated with foot function).
