In the human body, tendons essentially act to connect muscles to bones, enabling movement of the skeleton. Tendonitis refers to inflammation of a tendon, and can occur anywhere in the body.
Most commonly in the lower leg, those tendons affected by tendonitis are the Achilles tendon along the back of the heel to the calf, and the peroneal tendons which run along the outside of the foot and lower leg.
