Turf toe is an injury to the big toe where the toe is stretched excessively in an upward position. This can stretch or tear the joint capsule. This often occurs in athletes especially in sports involving lots of change of direction.
Treatment will depend on the severity of the injury to the joint but will usually involve a combination of anti-inflammatory measures and immobilisation.
