Anterior ankle impingement occurs at the front of the ankle. The pain results from restricted movement of the bones within the ankle joint. This causes the bones to pinch against each other in a painful way.Ā This can lead to arthritis and bony spurs developing within the joint.
Treatment typically involves improving the motion at the ankle joint usually through calf stretches and releases. Footwear advice and modifications can also be very useful as appropriate shoes can open up the ankle joint and relive the impingement.
