Custom-Made Orthopaedic Footwear at Entire Podiatry
Some people simply cannot be comfortably or safely fitted into standard shoes. At Entire Podiatry, we provide a comprehensive custom-made orthopaedic footwear service for patients with complex foot shapes, deformities, or medical conditions that make regular footwear unsuitable.
Case Example – Neurological Injury Following a Motor Vehicle Accident
We recently assisted a patient with long-standing foot deformities due to a neurological injury sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Because of a severe cavus foot type, they experienced excessive heel pressure and painful callus build-up. Even wide-fitting and medical-grade footwear could not accommodate the foot shape or provide adequate support.
To help this patient walk more comfortably, we completed:
- A detailed biomechanical assessment
- 3D digital foot scanning
- Creation of customised digital lasts tailored precisely to the patient’s anatomy
- Co-ordinated the design and manufacture of fully customised orthopaedic shoes through a specialist orthopaedic footwear laboratory
- Integration of a custom SMO (supramalleolar orthosis) was also built into the footwear for extra stability
This combination provided improved comfort, pressure redistribution, and functional support for daily mobility.
