After weeks of holidays and time spent without shoes on, it may take some time for your child to wear in new school shoes. So what’s the best way to go about it? Here’s our advice…
- It’s best for children to wear in school shoes gradually, 1-2 weeks before they have to wear them for full school days.
- School shoes and socks can be worn for short periods at home, starting with one hour per day, and increasing by an hour each day.
- Ideally, your child should be able to tolerate wearing their school shoes and socks at home for 5 consecutive hours before starting to wear them for school.
If your child is noticing any areas of pain, redness or skin breakdown when wearing new school shoes then this should be checked out. Kids wear school shoes for so many hours each week, it’s really important to make sure their shoes fit well and offer adequate support.
