Gout – What is gout?
Gout is a condition that flares up when there is too much uric acid in the bloodstream. The build-up of this acid can leave solidified traces in the joints. In the feet, it is usually the big toe that suffers the consequences but any joint in the foot can be affected.
Gout Symptoms
Gout is really painful. The signs are swelling, redness and a throbbing pain. More often than not these symptoms will start late in the evening.
Gout How we can help
We can help firstly, by providing you with an accurate diagnosis and then by discussing some lifestyle changes, as gout is often bought on by dietary factors. This is really important as gout can lead to permanent joint damage if some changes are not made. We can provide you with footwear inserts to help protect your foot during a gout attack and offer you pain relief solutions.
If you have had gout for a long period of time and the joints are enlarged then footwear advice would also be required and possibly orthotics to redistribute the pressure off this area.
